2013 was a slow book year for me. Between switching from part-time to full-time work in June, learning to Zentangle and increasing my sewing, my reading time dropped dramatically. This is just not acceptable, so there will be a rearranging of priorities in the new year. But even in a slow year, there are a few books that I loved (including links to my reviews, if I wrote one.)
Best Books Published in 2013:
A Tapestry of Fortunes by Elizabeth Berg
Looking for Me by Beth Hoffman
The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd - 2003
The Ha-Ha by Dave King 2006
Talk Before Sleep by Elizabeth Berg 2006
Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn 2007
Book Bummers, or There's some reading hours I'll never get back!: Three big names that disappointed me. I still can't believe I put a Stephen King book in the DNF pile!
The Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin
The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaimin
Doctor Sleep by Stephen King
The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaimin
Doctor Sleep by Stephen King
Looking For Me was one of my favs, too. I was just going through my bookshelves the other day, trying to see if there were some books I could live without; The Ha-Ha was almost one of them. Glad I kept it!
ReplyDeleteGreat list here -- both the Gaiman and the Hoffman books made it to my lists. I loved the Martin books and the Kidd book.
ReplyDeleteSecret Life of Bees was a favorite for me when I read it. The movie is good too. I like Looking for Me too!
ReplyDeletethis year was a bit slow for me when it came to reading, but it was a bit of a choice. I fell behind in reviewing them and didn't want to start a new book until I forced myself to write at least one review. Don't know that I'll get caught up, but I am coming to terms with that. I don't need to review every book I read. more sewing next year on my projects that I really want to do, that's one of my goals. Time will tell how that goes.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful surprise! I'm delighted and incredibly honored to see my novel "Looking for Me" on your Best Books Published in 2013 list. Thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteWishing you and yours a terrific 2014!
Oh no! I wonder about King sometimes. I actually put Doctor Sleep in my top 5 for 2013! But maybe because I listened to it? or because I thought Under the Dome not so good? oh well. I know Gaiman's Ocean was a love or hate. Happy New Year.
