The Hummingbird Keeps Hum - Hum - Humming Along . . .

The food kept disappearing from the feeder, so I knew something was eating, but hadn't been lucky enough to spot a hummingbird yet this year - they're elusive little boogers.  But last night I finally heard that tell-tale hum and grabbed the cell-phone.  They're too fast to get a decent still photo with a cell-phone camera, but I got several videos of them flitting in for a drink.  Amazing creatures!

BTW - the title of this post is a reference to the song "When the Red, Red Robin Comes Bob, Bob, Bobbing Along" - recorded by Bing Crosby, Doris Day and many others.  My Dad used to sign it when I was a kid.

So, there you go - a nature lesson and music history lesson all rolled into one.  You're welcome.

  1. Very cool! Last year we had to put up two feeders. We had so many hummingbirds and they were constantly fighting over the food almost to the point where no one was eating it. The backyard was like a battle royale. We put the second feeder on the opposite side of the house so that the hummingbirds couldn't see one from the other. It really cut down on the fights. ;)

  2. Awesome video. No that's a great idea on how to catch them eating!

  3. I've been catching glimpses of the ones in our area but it isn't non-stop traffic like it is during the summer. At times, we have at least 7 always buzzing about.

  4. LOL, my mom would sing that song too! Glad you got to see a bit of the hummingbird, they do move so fast, don't they?
