My sister, Teri, and I share books in our own two-person book club, taking turns making bi-monthly reading selections and creating fun activities to go along with the book. My husband, Dave, and I enjoy sharing books by reading them aloud to each other and discussing the plot points as we go along. We started this blog to encourage others to do the same.
To enter our mini-challenge just tell us your favorite way to share a book - brief description, picture, poem or even a link to a previous blog post - anything that expresses how you share your love of reading. The winner will receive a trade-paperback copy of I Don't Know How She Does It, by Allison Pearson (now a movie starring Sarah Jessica Parker and Pierce Brosnan) and an Internet Journal for storing favorite web-sites, sign-in/password info, and more. (Open internationally.) Just leave us a comment and then go double your reading pleasure and share a book! The challenge will remain open for two hours - till 1:00 PM Central Time (US). Please leave your e-mail address with your entry if it is not linked with your user name.
Thanks and Happy Reading!
ENTRIES ARE CLOSED. THANKS FOR PLAYING ALONG.
My favorite way to share a book is to loan them out. In my group of friends, I'm the library!

My favorite way to share books, apart from my book blog, is by taking my family and friends to bookstores and personally helping them find new books to read! I love being able to discuss what they want/like to read and finding a book that they end up enjoying :)

This year, I've been really enjoying sharing what I'm reading through the 50 Book Pledge, run by Savvy Reader, part of Harper Collins Canada.
ReplyDeleteThe 50 Book Pledge is basically a goal of reading 50 books this year and tweeting about them using the hashtag #50bookpledge. Each time I finish a book, I tweet the title with the hashtag. It's great for finding out what other people are reading and Savvy Reader posts recaps on the Savvy Reader blog (http://thesavvyreader.ca/) every once in a while. I've added a number of titles to my wishlist through the 50 Book Pledge and I know I've helped add some titles to other people's wishlists :)
I love taking my kids (who range in age from 19 - 6) to the library and helping them pick out books just for them! Of course the two older ones - girls are into all the paranormal stuff and I like to read those too so we can talk about them- and the 6 year old boy is just learning to read. It is so much fun sitting with him as he sounds out more and more words. We read alot of truck books and sponge bob!

My favorite way to share my love of reading is by finding the perfect book for the perfect person. I am may not be the best gift giver at holiday time, but my friends and family know I give good books whenever the right read crosses my lap. I pass them right on to eager hands.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite way to share my love of reading is to discuss book with my best friend. We shop for books together, try to find books the other needs and today for the first time will be reading the same book during the read-a-thon.
ReplyDeleteI love sharing books through leading a children's book club. We meet once a month to discuss what we've read together, but we also talk about other books we have read that we just loved and need to let others know about. The kids get so excited to share their picks. My favorite part is when I recommend a book and the kids come back asking for more books like it! bookaddictkatie@gmail.com

ReplyDeleteMy favourite way of sharing books is being utterly enthusiastic about them far past the point of obsession until all my friends are forced to read them if they want a hope in hell of understanding any of the references I become fluent in. Seems to work fairly well ;)
I exchange most of my books with one of my best friends.
ReplyDeleteWe live in different countries, so we only get to see each other once or twice a year.
During the time we don't see each other, we do constantly keep each other up to date with what we are reading though and when we then meet up, be both bring a large tote bag of books to give to the other one. (And also to return previously borrowed ones).
I last saw her in the summer, when we went on holiday in Denmark together - both with insanely heavy bags.
I lent her a few of my books and I got a few new ones from her.
I am currently reading one of these 'Denmark exchange books' :D

My favorite way to share a book is to try and find new authors for my husband based on books he has liked in the past and new authors I have found. It makes me so happy when I can give him a book, he reads it and he goes "Wow, that was a great book!" I've started doing this with my 10 year old son as well. It's just fun to match up people with books and get it right.

My favorite way to share a book is currently a Dutch mailinglist I am part of about books. People share what they have read and what they thought of it and this can lead to discussions. It does give me good ideas what to put on my reading list next :)
ReplyDeleteUsually when I want to rec a book I abuse caps-lock and post a Facebook/Twitter status. But all my friends know I'm a book-person so they come to me for recs or loans, too. :D
ReplyDeleteHappy reading!

The most fun I ever had sharing my love for reading and my best all-time series of books was many years back - the 1990's when I shared all of my Jeanette Oake books with a dear old lady at church. I took her one a week on Sundays and she read everyone I had! It was a special bond between us!
ReplyDeleteI share with my sister.

My favorite way to share a book I've loved is to gift it to a person I know will appreciate it as much as I did. :)
ReplyDeleteI also do a fair bit of gushing about books that I adore, and geeking out anytime they're mentioned in casual conversation, haha.
OOOHHH!!! I Don't Know How She Does It, by Allison Pearson, I have been wanting that one!
ReplyDeleteCan I say all of the above? Obviously I share books through blogging.. I LOVE to chat books. But also through conversations with anyone holding a book, looking at a book, considering a book.... you get the gist... :)
I am in a book club of 18 strong women and yeah... we talk and share books....

I joined Goodreads this summer and I love it. It's a great way to get and give recommendations, especially if you can find a group that shares your interests!

My best friend and I have a two person bookclub as well. We take turns picking books to read together. I love it. One way I share books is by making recommendations to my sister. I also love to give books as gifts.

Sharing books? I kind of force them on my friends when I'm reading them, or I share quotes from the books online. I find quotes are the best way to get a true feeling of a book and when I find a good quote I always want to immediately read the book. But that's just me. =)

I love to read books aloud with Jason and we both love to read tou our son who is 1.

I love sharing books. I mostly share through reviews of books that I have read. I also love the opportunity to help promote author's work.

My favorite way is with my book club -- in fact, I'm madly reading the book today that we'll be discussing on Thursday. It's a special book club, born of tragedy and sustained with hope. ReplyDeleteOur library is actually meeting today for a cooperative book club .. East Texas Library Friends (http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/18505.East_Texas_Library_Friends)
ReplyDeleteWe also read to patients at the nursing home every Monday.
This may be cheating, but my favorite way to share books is at work. I'm a librarian, and sharing my love of reading is the single-most reason why I do what I do.
ReplyDeleteBut to be more personal, I love going to used bookstores and buying multiple, cheap copies of my favorite novels (sometimes 3 or 4 at a time) to have sitting on my shelf at work, ready to loan out to anyone who comes to the library anxious to read one of the titles only to find out our copy is already out on loan. I don't always get them back, but that's why I buy them cheap. :-)
My favorite way to share a book is to find a book that I really love and then talk all of the people in my life into reading it. I did this with Harry Potter, Twilight, and The Hunger Games. It is a great way to share your love of books and to become closer with other people through books.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite way to share the joy of reading has to be lending my books to friends and family.
ReplyDeleteI remember when I was a teenage my sister and I were always swapping each others books which really helped increase the variety that both of us would read.

Well, to my best friend Jodi, I am her library! She often comes over to look at my (ridiculously full) shelves for something to read!
ReplyDeleteMy most favorite way to share my love of reading has been having my teenage son read along with me in the pat 5 read-a-thons- and today makes it 6! Here is a link to a post in which I highlighted him (photos included) during last April's event:

For me, it all boils down to recommending and loaning out books. I view my library as just that - a library. I happily loan out books to friends and family (and fortunately have been very lucky with getting books back - I think I've only had to replace a book once). One of the best things I know is to loan somebody a book that I recommended them (i.e., not a book they asked to loan, but one I suggested that they loan), and have them come back to me and say, "Maria, that is the best book I have EVER read!" Apparently I'm not too bad at picking books for other people? At least I seem to have a good hit-rate with my closest friends. My sister-in-law fell in love with "Ender's Game", my sister couldn't put down "Twilight", a good friend still raves about "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" and eeeeverybody loves "The Yada Yada Prayer group". It gives me a thrill every time I manage to 'match' a book to a reader properly :-)
ReplyDeletekiwiria at livejournal dot com.
I tend to ramble at friends excitedly about my recent reads, and lend them my books if they're interested. Failing that, a book does make a great gift, so if there's something I know they'll enjoy, off to the bookstore I go.
ReplyDeletePlus, there's a book exchange table in my apartment block, and I'm always happy to see my donations finding new owners!
I share books that I love with my siblings all the time and I always get a huge kick when they enjoy them too! Also, as a nanny, I am constantly sharing my love of books with the kids that I watch. Their birthday and christmas presents always involve a book that I have loved!
ReplyDeleteI share my love of books by starting a neighborhood book club and keeping it going for these past seven years! What fun that's been.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite way to share books is to shop library book sales/Goodwill, etc. to find the perfect book for someone. That way, instead of lending them my copy, I can give it to them so they don't feel any pressure to read it quickly and get it back to me. They can read it at their leisure.
ReplyDeleteI talk about books all the time, even occasionally handing out "business" cards that include my blog URL. I have a book blog to share books I'm reading and also a book club blog to discuss books. I started a Banned Books blog which has hundreds of visitors every day during Banned Books Week at the end of September. And I join read-a-thons like this! Just call me a Bookie.

I have bookish parents and bookish friends. And a really good library. And, of course, lovely book blogs to read... And Twitter
ReplyDeleteSo the question is: where don't I share books?
Books and reading seem to be the main things I talk about. That and recipes!
Mostly from sharing books and talking about them. I started Mocha Girls Read because I was the only woman of color I knew (family not included) who loved to read. I thought there must be others so I started the blog then we grew quickly and now have two chapters and over 100 twitter followers and just got 80 Facebook Likes all in two months.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite way to share a book is to find out books that people have liked in the past and try to find a book that matches their tastes. I think of it as setting someone up on a blind date with a book! I usually give this advice without being asked, but sometimes my friends and family actually read and like books I've recommended. Thanks for this challenge!

Jessica @ Books: A true story
I share my love of books with my husband. Before the time of ereaders we always had to coordinate the books we brought on canoeing holidays as we could not have too much weight. It was not difficult to find books with common interest. We discuss the books we read a lot and recommend books to each other. He has a few hours ago downloaded a couple of books to my kindle that it seems quite a few people here are reading today and he thought they might be right for me.
ReplyDeleteI live in a place with just a very small library in the school so the internet and now ereaders are great for us.
My partner and I share books, which is nice. I know some couples don't share similar reading styles or interests but we do (mostly -- I like children's lit more than she does and she likes paranormal romance more than I do...)
ReplyDeleteWe also have six kids and I love finding books that I think each of them will enjoy -- and reading those along with them.
And last, but not least, my partner's mom lives with us and I choose all of her books for her (from the library or on her Nook.) It's challenging but fun, too. Wondering if she'll like something - listening as she talks about how much she enjoyed a particular author or a book she wasn't really sure she'd like when I brought it home.
I share books through my work as a librarian and on my blog, YA? Why Not? http://wp.me/pzUn5-Ct
ReplyDeleteI share books my mother. We can spend long hours discussing books and I love that about her! And of course, I do so through my blog. and Twitter.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the mini-challenge.
I share books I really love buy buying a copy and forcing it on the person I want to read it - then I talk about it constantly til they can't stand it and read it. Usually they want to read it after the first description though.
ReplyDeletePabkins @ Mission to Read
Of course I share my love for the books I read through my book blog, e.g.:
ReplyDeletehttp://cessiesbookjourney.blogspot.com/2011/09/la-bella-figura-field-guide-to-italian.html
or through Goodreads or Facebook. And I talk about it with friends in a book club or just during dinner... whatever it's one of my favorite topics :)
My favorite way to share is by posting it online: blog, twitter, facebook, goodreads, anything that gets the word out about a great book!
ReplyDeleteI also love to do book swaps with friends in order to find new stuff and show off the stuff I like to them.

I share books a couple different ways. I belong to a great book club where we not only discuss the book we decided to read but other good books as well. I also make a lot of recommendations to my mom. She doesn't have a lot of time to read so I share the best of the best with her so she doesn't waste time reading anything that is only so-so.

I share books everywhere!! I enter contests to win books and after I read I give away, I do that with most physical books,my shelves are really too full.
ReplyDeleteI work at a B&N so I share with shoppers what I'm reading or have read or want to read, making suggestions all day long, what a wonderful job.
I blog my reviews, I share on goodreads and twitter and fb.
I'm giving my rather full loaded up Kindle to my mom, so I can buy a nook....I hope she enjoys what's on there before she buys more!!
Thanks for hosting the mini-challenge

Well there are two favorite ways I share my love of reading - I blog about books (posting reviews, giveaway and various thoughts about them) and I donate books to a local charity.
ReplyDeletecaribousmom (at) gmail (dot) com
I share my love of reading by passing on books to my daughter.
ReplyDeleteMy picture is here.
I'm lucky enough to work at the local library so my favourite way to share books nowadays is to find people wandering aimlessly in the stacks and help them find the perfect book to read! It's such a joy to see someone light up at a book description and then wander off to check it out.
ReplyDeleteAnd also through my blog of course - it's been a such a pleasure getting to know people who love books as much as I do and recommending my favourites!

My favourite way to share books is to put them in the mail. I mail them either to my sister a few provinces away, or to friends around the world (next week I'm heading to the post office to mail one to England one to Australia.) It can cost quite a bit of money but there's something wonderful thinking about travelling books!

My favorite way to share a book is thru social media. I am on twitter pretty much all day. So if I am reading an awesome book, I tweet about it. I also use my Goodreads status updates as a way to express how much I am enjoying a book. And of course my blog, when I love a book I normally have a giveaway for it cause I want people to experience the great read that I just had.
ReplyDeleteI love sharing books with my nephew. When he was about 3 or 4 we would read Where the Wild Things Are and act out the scenes, especially howling at the moon and the wild rumpus. Now that he's six, I set him up with paper and colored pencils and he makes a book of his own while I read to him Harry Potter and Percy Jackson. I'm forever talking about books to everyone, but he's the one I love sharing books with most.
ReplyDeleteI love sharing books with my 5 year old. We are working on sight words and seeing her recognize words is so awesome!! I am so thrilled that she will soon have a world of reading opened to her!!

Honestly, my favorite way to share a book is blogging! I think it is a great way to let many people know when a book is great, and it allows me to vent all my cheesy/exciting/fangirly/deep insights into my experience.
ReplyDeleteAlso love lending them out, especially to my mom. :)

My favorite way to share a book is word of mouth :)My clients all know about my blog and my love of books so they always ask me for suggestions. I was so happy when two of my client who rarely read YA both bougt and fell in love with The Hunger Games trilogy!
ReplyDeleteMy favourite way to share a book is either lending them to other people or talking about them. And blogging, of course. :)

My favorite way to share a book is by buying extra copies of books that I like at used booksales, and then giving those copies to friends who I think would enjoy them. Seriously, is there any gift better than a book? Plus it makes them more likely to read my suggestions if I actually give them a copy! Hehe.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway, happy readathon!

I love sharing my love of books by going to a used bookstore and then picking out selections for friends and having them do the same for me. That way I get to read books I would not have read otherwise and I can talk about some of my favourites with others who have now read them. Also, by going to a used bookstore, you can get quite a few books and not spend a lot. It's a great way to spend the afternoon.

I love to give away books. I do it in a couple of ways. One is to donate to the library and other needy places. My favorite way is to see a book and think about the people I know who would like this book. Kids books are the most fun.
ReplyDeleteGood luck Tami with your Read-A-Thon
I love to share my love of books by either giving or loaning them to others. If I buy a book I will donate it to one of the libraries here, or to the hospital or Nursing homes around me. I will also give books as gifts or loan one to friends and family, if I think they will like that book.
ReplyDeleteGood luck:D

I love sharing books with my children, introducing them to new authors and new books all the time. We use the library quite a lot for that because I want to share all my old favorites as well as new books I hear about on book blogs I read. I just love watching my kids' eyes light up when they read a new book for the first time.
ReplyDeleteI have always shared my books via conversation--usually a description with the best features of a book emphasized. I try really hard to avoid spoilers. Lately, my favorite way to share a book is also via my blog and twitter. Sometimes, I post about books on Facebook as well. Oh, and I can't forget my classroom--that's a huge part of my job as an English teacher! I regularly share books with my students via whole-class and individual recommendations!
ReplyDeleteI love sharing with my 13-year old son. We still read together, and every young adult book I've read is because he said, "mom, you should totally read this" from the Twilight saga to the Hunger Games and Mortal Instruments series.
ReplyDeleteHappy Reading, Tami!
Like most others, I tend to share books with my friends. I give a lot of recommendations and receive many from them as well. I also have an account at GoodReads which is wonderful. Its a great way to learn about new books. I network with a lot of authors on Twitter as well, especially indie authors. And on Twitter, every Friday we share our #FridayReads.
ReplyDeleteMy preferred way to share a book is to hand it to my selected author and say, "Here, read this. You'll like it." Seems to work pretty well.
ReplyDeleteI love to share books! I am known as the library in my neighbourhood, as neighbours are always borrowing books from me. I also share books by sending them to other readers via bookcrossing.com. I also " wild release" books. I always leave a book or two in the doctor's office, or Emergency Room any time I visit. I could go on and on.
