One of my favorite parts of my previous job was being able to provide that kind of service to patrons, but not all libraries have the funds or freedom to be so accommodating. What a blessing that this library doesn't fall in that category. Now, I don't expect them to order every book I request, but my library withdrawal symptoms seem more manageable today.
I'm sorry you are forced into the same position as the rest of us lowly library patrons - waiting in a long line for the best books. Just yesterday I got the latest David Baldacci. When I signed up for it (prior to release date) I was #135! I look at it this way: at leaset I have an online catalog that allows me to check on books the library has or is ordering and lets me put my name on them. Without that, I'd be spending an insane amount of money on books or I'd be doing without.
ReplyDeleteAny chance of getting a job at the new library?
Looks like a nice library. Hope you love everything about your new area.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been to Falls City in years. I don't remember the library at all but this is much more than I would expect in a town of that size. How lucky that they also have funding to buy the latest books and that they are also friendly. I imagine you'll be seeing a lot of them!
